4 August - Med-Tech Innovation News - Covid-19 rapid antibody test to be rolled out in August -
The test will be named the “AbC-19 Rapid Test”. It uses a small drop of blood from a finger-prick, and shows results in 20 minutes, without the need to send a sample to a lab. The test can help build a swift and clear picture of how the virus has spread throughout mass populations.  It can also help establish the effectiveness of any vaccine which provides protection by creating new antibodies.  This information will be critical to managing current and future outbreaks of COVID-19.

In the second evidence session of the new all-party parliamentary group (APPG) for coronavirus led by a cross-party group of MPs, Downing Street was accused of being “asleep at the wheel” and of mounting a “sluggish” response to the coronavirus. In testimony on Wednesday four relatives from Covid-19 Bereaved Families for Justice – a group of 1,450 people who have lost loved ones as a result of the pandemic – described the deaths of their loved ones.

13 August - The Guardian - Coronavirus death toll in England revised down by more than 5000  - The change means 5,377 deaths will no longer be included in the official total from Public Health England, resulting in a decrease in the UK total from 46,706 to 41,329 – a reduction of 11.5%.

14 August - Government data reported that up to 13 August there had been 41347 deaths due to Covid-19. This reflects the altered basis for counting which resulted (surprise!) in a lower number. Daily reported COVID deaths are now measured across the UK as deaths that occurred within 28 days of the first laboratory-confirmed positive COVID test.
