Eight men jailed for sexually abusing child (aged 15) in Bradford during the period 2002-4

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has reported the sentencing of eight men for their roles in the sexual exploitation of a vulnerable child in Bradford more than 20 years ago. - CPS News 3 October 2025.

The CPS notes that - Reporting restrictions have now been lifted, allowing the case to be reported for the first time since proceedings began in January 2025.

The various convictions arise from three trials.

Rape convictions were:

Raja Zulqurnean (42) who was convicted (29 January 2025) on 6 counts of rape and 5 counts of indecent assault. The offences were committed in the period 2002 to 2004. In May 2025 he was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment but, in September, that was increased by the Court of Appeal (Criminal Division) to 23 years.

Mohammed Shezad Hussain (39) was sentenced on 3 October 2025 to 12 years imprisonment on 2 counts of rape and 3 counts of indecent assault.

Basaharat Iqbal Khaliq (44) was sentenced on 3 October 2025 to 21 years imprisonment on 3 counts of rape and 4 counts of indecent assault.

A further 5 men were sentenced on counts of indecent assault.

In all of these cases, sentencing would have been on the basis of sentencing law as it stood at the time of the offences. At the time writing, sentencing remarks have not been published.

A search on the CPS website (keyword Grooming) reveals numerous other cases.

*** The Inquiry ***

As far as I can discover, no new developments have been reported about the setting up of the much-promised grooming gangs inquiry which I wrote about - HEREHERE and, more recently, HERE.

There is a BBC Report of 4 October 2025 stating that the West Yorkshire Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime is of the view that, when the inquiry considers the West Yorkshire area, a region-wide focus is essential rather than a focus on particular cities / towns.
