Onasanya ~ Recall Petition successful

The Member of Parliament for Peterborough - Fiona Onasanya - has been successfully "recalled" under the provisions of the Recall of MPs Act 2015.   Previous post - 4 February 2019 - Fiona Onasanya MP - 3 months for perverting the course of justice

The Speaker of the House of Commons announced the outcome of the recall petition which will lead to a by-election.   The Petition  was supported by 27.64% of the electorate in the constituency.  The threshold is 10%.

Onasanya narrowly won
the Peterborough seat at the 2017 election with 22950 votes.  Other candidates obtained 22343 (Conservative), 1597 (Liberal Democrat) and 848 (Green) - a total of 24788.  The seat thereby offered a good example of first past the post at work.

Onasanya is the first MP to be removed under the Act.  She is entitled to stand again for election.

The by-election:

The Labour Party (narrowly) won the by-election.  Onansanya did not stand for election.

Struck off:

In August 2019 it was announced that Onansanya had been struck off the roll of solicitors.
