Two appointments to the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom

Lord Justice Wilson
It has been announced that Lord Justice Wilson and Mr Jonathan Sumption QC are to be appointed to the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom.  Lord Justice Wilson's background may be seen here.  He is a vastly experienced family lawyer and as a judge he has sat in the High Court from 1993 to 2005 and in the Court of Appeal since then.   Jonathan Sumption QC is a highly regarded commercial lawyer with expertise in European Union law, Competition Law, Public and Constitutional Law.  He has been frequently engaged in overseas jurisdictions, and in recent years has argued cases before the Appellate Courts of Hong Kong and also the Federal Court in Australia.  It was rare for a lawyer to be appointed directly to the House of Lords and Mr Sumption is the first such appointment to the Supreme Court.

Jonathan Sumption QC
Lord Saville retired from the Supreme Court in 2010 and Lord Collins is due to retire.
