Grooming Gangs - The Statutory Inquiry and notes about some other work


The Statutory Independent Inquiry into Grooming Gangs was set up in June 2025 and the Chair (Baroness Anne Longfield) and two panel members (Zoë Billingham and Eleanor Kelly) were appointed in December 2025.

The first local investigations are taking place in Oldham, Bradford and Keighley, and London.

Other work:

1) A "Rape Gang Inquiry" was conducted by Rupert Lowe MP and has published its report -

Rupert Lowe is Leader of the Restore Britain Party and MP for Great Yarmouth.

2) Greater Manchester - work on child sexual exploitation was carried out in Greater Manchester. A published timeline sets out the action taken by the Mayor of Greater Manchester (Andy Burnham) -

On 18 June 2026, Burnham was elected MP for Makerfield and appears likely to replace Sir Keir Starmer as Prime Minister. Starmer announced his departure from office on Monday 22 June. His formal resignation will take place once the Labour Party has chosen a new party leader.
